History of the Small Wild Goose Pagoda

The pagoda was built in 707 AD during the Tang Dynasty, under the reign of Emperor Zhongzong.

It was originally 45 meters tall (15 stories), but due to an earthquake in 1556, the top two floors collapsed, leaving it at 43 meters (13 stories).

The pagoda was part of the Jianfu Temple, a Buddhist monastery that served as a major center for translating Buddhist scriptures brought from India. It was built to store Buddhist texts and relics, spreading Buddhism across China.
